May 18th Race Results
In Race #1 of the 2012 TBRA Series, hometown driver Neil Brown, racing for Stan’s Transmissions, Monarch Oil and Howard Concrete, took the win! He has been a force to be reckoned with in the Motordrome weekly races and has proven himself just as much of a threat in the first TBRA Series 100 lap late model feature.
Brown, the hometown driver, had the fastest qualifying time of the night and drew an eight position invert for the starting line-up. Brown worked to the front from an eighth position start rather quick moving to fourth by lap 33 and taking the lead on the restart of lap 58.
Veterans George Skora III and Jeff Amsdell made the podium finishing in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Amsdell took the lead on lap 37 after a sixth position start and held on with a comfortable lead over Brown, Awtey and Henry until lap 58 when after a few cautions Brown took the lead on a restart. Skora started ninth and raced into the top 5 on the lap 58 restart. Skora chased down Awtey to enter the top 3 on lap 63 and edged out Amsdell to finish 2nd.
Also in the top 5 was veteran Bobby Henry and Super Compact Champ and Street Stock veteran Matt Sever with his first appearance in a late model!
The first TBRA Series race of 2012 gave the fans great racing excitement starting off with 52 consecutive laps without caution! A few cautions following the restart thinned the pack a little bit with Nathan Russell, Tom Fares, Jr. and Steve Black having to pull out of the field by lap 58. Mark Poole started on the pole from the invert but also dropped out prior to the finish.
All still picked up points toward the 2012 TBRA Series of Champions Points Chase and will hopefully be back in contention for Race #2 on May 26th at Lake Erie Speedway!
